A Nigeria history never taught in schools

Do you know that the 2nd oldest boat known worldwide and the oldest in africa is in Nigeria?

The Dufuna Canoe was discovered in 1987 by a Fulani cattle herdsman a few kilometers from the village of Dufuna in the fune Local Government Area, not far from the Komadugu Gana River, in Yobe State, Nigeria.

The canoe was excavated in 1994 from a depth of five meters beneath the earth’s surface by a combined team of Nigerian and German archaeologists. Radiocarbon dating of a sample of charcoal found near the site dates the canoe at 8500 to 8000 years old, linking the site to Lake Mega Chad

 The canoe is currently in Damaturu, the state capital. Measuring 8.4 meters in length, 0.5 meters in width and about 5 cm in thickness. I will like to see this boat someday...

Breaking News!!! Extraordinary Cancer breakthrough Revealed

Tests of a potentially revolutionary cancer therapy have had "extraordinary" results on terminally ill patients, scientists have revealed.

In one study, more than nine out of ten participants with a severe form of leukaemia saw their symptoms completely vanish.
Four out of five patients with some other blood cancers responded positively to the treatment and more than half ended up symptom free.

Lead scientist Professor Stanley Riddell, from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, US, said the results were among patients who were projected to have two to five months to live.

The technique involves removing immune cells called T-cells from patients, tagging them with "receptor" molecules that target cancer, and putting them back into the body in an infusion.
The targeting molecules, known as chimeric antigen receptors or Cars, came from specially bred genetically engineered mice.
Once attached to the T-cells, they reduce the ability of the cancer to shield itself from the body's natural immune system.

FIRST ACCOUNTED LASSA FEVER DEATH IN OGUN STATE, NIGERIA

The Ogun State government has confirmed the death of the first victim of Lassa fever in the state.
 

The 28-year-old female resident of Ebonyi State was being treated at the isolation centre at the Olabisi Onabanjo Teaching Hospital, Sagamu before her demise.

The Ogun State Commissioner for Health, Mr Babatunde Ipaye, has confirmed that none of the 121 primary contacts who have been put under observation has shown any symptom of the virus.
The Commissioner also announced that another 28-year-old pregnant woman from Kogi State has been diagnosed and tested positive to the virus.
He added that the patient is being attended to at the same isolation facility in Sagamu while disclosing that she has recovered from the initial fatigue, body weakness and depression.
Mr Ipaye appealed to the people of Ogun State not to entertain any unnecessary panic as the situation is under control.

Rivers State governor in Nigeria, lifts suspension on commissioner and Finance and Accountant- General of the state

Rivers State Governor Barr. Nyesome Wike, has recalled the suspension of  Commissioner, Dr Fred Kpakol and the Accountant-General, Sir Abere Dagogo following interventions by different political leaders.
The statement quoted Wike as urging political appointees to differentiate between friendship and governance in the discharge of their functions.
“Governance is a serious business. It is not friendship. When it comes to governance I won’t know friendship.
“I will lift the suspension on the Finance Commissioner and the Accountant-General, but they must henceforth take their functions seriously.
“Next time, I will not take into consideration the pleas of political stakeholders,” Wike said.
The statement said the governor advised all political appointees to take their responsibilities seriously to enable government succeed in the delivery of projects contained in his administration`s development blueprint.

Assistant Commissioner of Police dies in a Hotel around Ajah in Lagos, Nigeria

It has been confirmed that the Assistant Commissioner of Police died yesterday in a hotel,
Late Morogbo, Mr. Osung Ekpo, the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) died mysteriously while swimming in an undisclosed hotel in the city.

A Police source told The Guardian newspaper that the incident ‘was the worst valentine gift for the police’.
The Area Commander allegedly died in a swimming pool at a popular hotel in the Ajah area of Lagos.
It was said that  Ekpo who was in company of his friends, had gone to celebrate St Valentine’s Day when he decided to swim and was drowned.
Eye witnesses said that he was rescued from the pool and was taken to the hospital but died few minutes later.
But Lagos State Police spokesperson, Dolapo Badmos, a Superintendent of Police said that the ACP had gone for a swimming exercise when the sad incident occurred.

Her words: “Yes, we lost ACP Ekpo, the Area Commander, Area K Command. He was exercising in a swimming pool when he died. I am preparing a press release, which I would send to you soon. “

$1 billion drug bust in Australia

Australian police have seized $1 billion Australian dollars' worth of the drug "ice" from a shipment of silicon bra inserts and art supplies, the country's federal police said, worth approximately US$700 million.

According to authorities, the bust is one of the biggest in Australia's history, and the largest seizure of liquid methylamphetamine ever.

"This has resulted in 3.6 million individual hits of ice being taken off our streets," said Federal Justice Minister Michael Keenan.

Children were among 14 people killed when missiles hit a hospital and school in a rebel-held Syrian town near the Turkish border.

Scores more were injured in the strikes on Azaz where tens of thousands of refugees had fled to escape heavy fighting between Syrian troops and opposition militias.

Russia has been blamed for the attacks, carried out in support of a government ground offensive.

Attieke and Fish

Today's Recipe is Attieke and Fish,

Attieke is an Ivorian Popular dish it is made from fermented and grated cassava, and can be eaten with fried fish or a sauce. The already processed cassava can be bought from any shop or market in Ivory Coast. it contains 158calories "PER SERVE"  Carbohydrate 37%, Sodium 205mg- 9%, Potassium 248mg -7%, Dietary Fiber 4.8g 19% Vitamin C 82% and 9% Iron

Ingredients include: Cooked Attieke, Onions, tomatoes, chilli (Optional), salt to taste, maggi and olive oil

Directions on how to prepare Attieke

Attieke is put in a metal bowl and then places on a steamer basket, it is then allowed to steam until all the water is been absorbed.

Cook for 20 more minutes turning the Attieke with a fork to break up any clumps

 (if the clumps do not break up, then it has not cooked enough. Attieke should be fluffy and cooked but not sloppy (it should look like couscous or grits).

Once it is done, turn into a large bowl, add crumbled Maggi cubes and olive oil.

 To serve, turn the Attieke  onto a dish and garnish with a little diced tomato and thin slivers of sliced onion. 

Fry Fish and eat along with Attieke. A perfect Combination!!

America's Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia found dead at West Texas ranch

America's Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia found dead at West Texas ranch.  79 years old Antonin Scalia was a guest at the Cibolo Creek Ranch, a resort in the Big Bend region south of Marfa. Scalia arrived the ranch on Friday and attended a private party with about 40 people that night.

He left the party and retired to bed earlier than others, according to Donna Sellers, a spokeswoman with the U.S. Marshals Service.

When he failed to appear at breakfast, a person involved with the ranch went to his room, where he discovered his body. A priest was called to administer last rites.
A federal official, who asked not to be named, said there was no evidence of foul play and it appeared that Scalia died of natural causes
